Entering the 3rd Trimester!! Week 28

How our baby's growing:

By this week, your baby weighs two and a quarter pounds (although it was estimated at 2 1/2 lbs at last appointment) and measures 14.8 inches from the top of her head to her heels. She can blink her eyes, which now sport lashes. With her eyesight developing, she may be able to see the light that filters in through your womb. She's also developing billions of neurons in her brain and adding more body fat in preparation for life in the outside world. (The baby's not the only one adding more body fat...so what am I preparing for then??)

We have a nursery....

After weeks on back-order, our baby bedding finally
arrived. And no, the elephants have nothing to do with
a certain someone's political persuasion. It just happened
to be two colors we both could agree on.

We will not be using the baby bumper until the little one is
at least 6 months old. Mostly because there is no way to fasten
it to the back of the crib, and a little because our baby class
lady freaked us all out about using baby bumpers.

Another quilt is in the making, via my lovely Grandmother, and I am
quite excited about it. I actually selected all of the material
and decided on the patten for it. Greens and browns, of course.

Hugh's reaction upon seeing the "baby art" that I made: (namely
the one above the dresser) "Aww... baby elephant turds!"
I'm hoping it eventually says, "Lil' Peanut."

25 Weeks and Video...

25 Weeks and Heading to Baby Class!
Hugh has a great video he put together of our Baby Class experience as we toured the "birth place" and the appropriate areas of the hospital we will be delivering at. It's quite funny....Let's see if I can get it to work: http://www.vimeo.com/2501920

And while you're there, you can see all the the latest videos Hugh's been working on for his Dude to Dad quest.

Baby Update: Week 24

Baby updates are hard to keep current. The darn thing just keeps on growing. I must say that tonight was a bit surreal because the little thing was laying on the front of Amy's stomach and you could cup its back. It was almost holding it...and immediately emotional for me. -Hugh

How your baby's growing:

Your baby's growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts him at just over a pound. Since he's almost a foot long (picture an ear of corn), he cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but his body is filling out proportionally and he'll soon start to plump up. His brain is also growing quickly now, and his taste buds are continuing to develop. His lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help his air sacs inflate once he hits the outside world. His skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.
